Join The Team

Eligibility

Supporting Requirements:
  1. Be currently enrolled undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate student
  2. Have a career interest in working with children and youth, 4-H/CES, or other “helping” career field
  3. Accept the one-year commitment to the program while remaining in college (must be in active student status for a minimum of 6 months during the 1-year cohort commitment)
  4. Be committed to supporting a minimum of one military event per month for the duration of the internship
  5. Be able and willing to travel anywhere throughout the United States and US territories
  6. Own or have access to a reliable automobile and current automobile insurance
  7. Successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check (to include driving records)
  8. Complete the career-enhancing project/leadership certificate while working with an individual mentor
Preferred Experience, Skills, & Training: 
  • Experience working with youth
  • Excellent organizational and training skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and to meet deadlines
  • Skill in coordinating activities and establishing priorities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to analyze problems and make well-reasoned, sound decisions
  • Experience with Cooperative Extension (desired but not required)

Application Process

Here are the documents you'll need for your application:
  1. A North Carolina State University Staff Intern Application - Upon submission, applicants will receive a confirmation email containing an applicant ID and further information regarding application status and tracking procedures. NCSU Project YES Application.
  2. ​Professional resume’ with cover letter -  Both resume’ and cover letter must be included as an attachment to the NC State University Staff Intern Application.
  3. Application Essay - Each applicant must complete the on-line Project YES application essay - Project YES Essay 
  4. ​​Letters of Recommendation - All internship applications must include two letters of recommendation. When applicable, one recommendation form should be completed by someone for whom you have worked or volunteered in a child development, youth development or leadership capacity. Other suitable references include professors, academic advisers, or former/current employers. Recommendation forms from family members or relatives will not be accepted.  Project YES Letter of Recommendation
